'Big brother is watching you'

As the world becomes more extreme and politicians increasingly pursue popularity over principle, expressing dissent digitally on the internet provides both a useful channel for releasing personal outrage and more worryingly, an indelible evidence trail for use by a future 'draconian state organisation' to target and eliminate opposition. Once information  is out there, there it remains.

Big brother is watching us all and we appear to be 'happy' to openly share our innermost thoughts with him unbidden.

Jupiter 9 years ago

This image of Jupiter shows the Great Red Spot, an anticyclone storm, which has raged from the time it was first observed from Earth with a telescope, that was captured from the Jodrell Plank Observatory located at Lowestoft, Suffolk UK in 2018.
Since then the Great Red Spot or GRS has been shrinking and becoming  a paler red, year on year.
Jupiter is a Gas Giant Planet and all the features we can see and image are meteorological and relate to fast moving cloud and storm systems. Most of the larger features are relatively stable in overall terms but changes do occur over time. Recently, one of the two equatorial cloud zones, which can be seen on this image, disappeared for a number of months before returning to visibility in the last two years.

Moon and Sun

The silver Moon and the golden Sun

Before each night and day are done

Both orbit and rotate

As did Kepler dictate.

Lighting a life-long journey along serpentine way

And just like Mars "helping us, work, rest and play"

Lobster and King Prawn Linguine

This is delicious with just a hint of Pasti in the very rich tomato based sauce. Reminded me of fun and good times in Venice.

Grandad George

'George Swinbourne'
(Professional Boxer, Fishmonger, Greengrocer and Landlord)
George Roberts circa 1990.

I thought it would be nice to post this drawing of my granddad next to the post of his brother Fred. He was a a funny on bloke, from a time long past but I really loved him.

I don't believe I have ever posted this little drawing of mine, which has sat on a shelf in our dining room for the past thirty or more years.

As time goes by, I begin to look like him.

Great Uncle Fred Swinbourne at the Camberwell School of Art

My Great Uncle Fred Swinbourne was an interesting and multifaceted human being. One of the four the 'Fighting Swinbourne Family' of four professional boxers, based in Kent during the early to middle part of the last century.

Fred was also an amazing card sharp and street magician. When I was a young lad, I used to be quite intrigued and a little frightened by this man, who would at the drop of a hat, demonstrate how to chew razor blades and eat light bulbs. Clearly kids, do not try either of these at home.

He fought in WW2 and was blown up and thrown from a jeep by the blast. His health was affected by this experience for the remainder of his life

My partner, being a teacher and historian, more latterly discovered, that Fred had been a male model for the life drawing classes at Camberwell College of Art.

The drawing of Fred above was created by the artist and college lecturer, John Minton.

Another male model at the College and a contemporary of Fred, was Quentin Crisp.

A Fishy Wrongness Poem for 2026.

Soft Herring Roes on Toast

Rose on Toast

Consider the word ‘herd’.
 By context rendered absurd.

Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen
I give you “rows on toast”.

Glasses roes in the auditorium.
Silence rained.

Tension mounted,
and then got off again.

In the dyslexic dictionary
Words are sew very easily lead astray!

The Wolf Moon January 2026

Who doesn't like a misty 'Wolf Moon'?  Cold last night on the Suffolk Coast and this morning it snowed. The plants in the backyard received a regular frosting and the birds were pleased to help themselves to fat, wire worms and sunflower seeds from the bird table.
