The Summer Milky-way

Two meteors flash across the Milky-way
The Milky-way streams across the sky above our backyard.  After midnight in the early hours of an August morning I set up my Canon 600D DSLR on a fixed tripod and took 48 x 15 sec exposures. The frames were then stacked using DeepSkyStacker and finished using Photoshop. During two of the 15 second exposures I was lucky to capture meteors as they burnt their terminal trails 90 kilometres above our patio.

The Perseid Meteor Shower August 2014

A Perseid Meteor photographed from the International Space Station on the 10th August 2014. Credit: Ron Garan, ISS Expedition 28 Crew, NASA
The Perseid Meteor Shower peaked on the 12th August and I was sadly prevented from photographing the event because of the debilitating affects of moonlight and clouds. The astronauts on the International Space Station, up above the clouds, are unaffected by atmospheric affects and so had a ringside seat for the meteor shower. Luckily and with my recently completed radio telescope the LVST, I was able to capture the radio footprint of a number of meteors. As soon as I have the time I will update my LVST web site.
