The Little Marrow that wouldn’t be
stuffed – A fairy story for our time.
Once upon a
time there was a little marrow
Who lived
by the sea in a wonderful garden of vegetables
The Sun
shone and the seagulls cried with joy
For all was
as it should be in a bountiful summer land of plenty
But sadly we are told - and with true deference to ‘common sense’ and ‘patriotism’
“All good
things must end”
So when autumn
came some wanted to share the harvest.
And some
didn’t !
“There’s
enough for everyone” said the little marrow
But those who
didn’t want to share said “ Little marrow we are going to stuff you”
And they cut
him from the plant - took him to the kitchen and tried to slice him - literally
to the marrow.
First the
knife cut him in half and then once again
But try as they might they couldn't stuff him.
For the
marrow had particularly thick skin and remained resolutely unstuffed.
