Southwold Interactive

Southwold Interactive Experience - Acrylic paint and pencil on board - velcro- on to ribbed carpet - December 2017 - George Roberts - by kind permission of Drs Rogers -Roberts
There's a famous seaside town called Southwold
Thats noted for being 'rate' posh and pretty
And Doctors Nina and Chrissy 'H' Roberts
Go there with daughters Jasmine and Kitty

Fine little girls both from Bushey
All dressed in their best, both quite swell
Their Dad full of bitter and porter
The finest that Adnams could sell

They didn't think much to the ocean
The waves they were piddli'n and small
There were no wrecks and nobody drownded
Fact, nothin' to laugh at at all.

So seeking for further amusement
They paid and went onto the pier.
Where they ate haddock and chips and burgers
Drank milkshakes, coca-cola and beer.

Later they lay in a som-no-lent posture
On the beach with gulls screamin' above
Girls diggin' and fetchin' sea-water
No movin'em for money nor love

Then after a week by the water
Pack car and wipe away a salt tear
Dont say your fairwells t' sad seagulls
Just aurevoir and see you next year!

Apologies to: Stanley Holloway and George Marriott Edgar

Delphiniums - Slight Techno Return

Delphiniums or Larkspur provide perennial drama, colour intensity and height in the typical country garden. There are approximately 300 species of Delphiniums. The plants flower from late spring until late summer, they come in a varity of colours including spectacular shades of blue. Delphiniums are pollinated by butterflies and bumble bees and despite their general 'toxicity' are fed upon by some species of Lepidoptera'.

Our garden 'hybrid' sculpture, made from fused glass and stainless steel, is arranged for 'planting' amongst shrubs and flowers. It is topped with three threaded stainless steel 'raceme' each holding seven fused glass flowers in colours of blue, cyan and magenta. Inclusions of 'dichroic' glass within the flowers catch and reflect sunlight. After dusk the flowers are illuminated by light emitting diodes, hidden within a central stainless steel tube, their soft blue light is focussed by a small sphere of clear glass.

The three steel 'raceme' are part restrained by bracing, but within the limits of structural stability, they are free to sway in the light breeze of a  warm summer's evening.

Achill Island

Daybreak Dugort Beach Achill Island - George Roberts Oil on Canvas 2017- by kind permission of Eileen and John McNamara.
Painted from a number of photographs taken from the Internet. Now that Toot has her Irish Passport, perhaps one day we might get to visit this beautiful island?

Print Making

Homemade Printing Press - From an idea on the Internet which I adapted and hopefully improved.
This Mark 2 model is being used by my daughter Alice to make excellent lino-cut art works. I am now planning a Mark 3 model using a bench vice screw thread instead of the mastic-gun mechanism utilised on the Mark 2 press.  I rather like the idea of my daughter and grandchildren being good at print making as my late father Joe was a printer by trade.

The following lino-cut prints were made and printed on the above press by Alice Roberts.

My first etching !

Donkey Boy versus King Kong in the Big Apple - Etching and mixed-media -George Roberts 2017 - by kind permission of William Roberts
"And now, ladies and gentlemen, before I tell you any more, I'm going to show you the greatest thing your eyes have ever beheld. He was a king and a god in the world he knew, but now he comes to civilization merely a captive - a show to gratify your curiosity. Ladies and gentlemen, look at Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World". Carl Denham

This was my first attempt at an etching - lessons learnt - Aluminium doesn't etch easy with Coca-cola - next time I will try copper!

First impression from the plate with added vibrant colour - featuring the 'Girl with big hair'
