The foundation of Junagarh Fort was laid on the 30th. January, 1589 AD. by the sixth ruler of Rathmore dynasty of Bikaner. Junagarh Fort remained the stronghold of Rathmore rulers until the state merged into the Union of India in 1949. Today it houses a museum displaying the heritage of the rulers of Bikaner.
